Further miles on the clock for the Levorg at Donington as Turkington scores best result to date
As the rain, snow and sunshine wrapped itself around Donington Park at the weekend, the BTCC drama continued to unfold on track with battles, brilliance and even blazes.
It was mixed fortunes for Silverline Subaru BMR Racing as the team recorded their first top 10 finish on the same moment they witnessed another car burst spectacularly into flames.
But it was Turkington again that showed the potential of the new Subaru Levorg with his radiant display qualifying in P11 and doing one better in the first race to cross the line in 10th position. Although it was a far cry from his pole and win from last year, the development of the new Levorg is slowly but surely taking shape.
A puncture for Colin on lap 4 ended his second race prematurely and it ruled out any hope of an even better result. Thoughts quickly turned to race 3 where Turkington had his eyes set on going forwards starting the race at the back of the field. Delivering a P18 finish was testament that there is still much more to come from this potentially ‘potent’ combination.
“We know there is work to do to close the gap to the front runners, but we have the people, skills and experience to make that happen.”
Asked how he felt being able to deliver the first Top 10 race result for the Subaru Levorg Colin said:
“Even when we’re entering into a complete unknown with the car I still expect the best from myself, and will continue to push hard to achieve the maximum result out of any situation we find ourselves in. Currently our progress cannot be measured in podiums, but we are going in the right direction and I am enjoying this new challenge.
Having only completed a shakedown run with the cars since the last event, I was happy to once again qualify just outside the top 10. I enjoyed a typical BTCC battle in Race 1 and it was pleasing to bring the car home in 10th position and score a few more championship points. An early puncture ruined any chances of advancing in Race 2 but again in Race 3 I was able to show the strengths of the car and move forward through the field. .”
