P2 FOR TURKINGTON
Second consecutive front row start for the BMW driver, as he thrashes out a “typically Turkington” stunning lap
In one of the first trouble free qualifying sessions of the season, Team BMW’s Colin Turkington thrust his 1 series around the Norfolk circuit in impeccable fashion. With an inescapable air of desire and intent, Turkington determinedly threw the 57kgs ballast laden BMW around to claim his second P2 result in as many meetings. Initially setting the fastest lap, the former double champion went on to improve his lap time but was beaten to pole by the weight free Honda of Jack Goff.
Replicating his performance from 2016, Turkington will start the first of tomorrow’s races second on the grid aiming to secure a good score of points. The teams were able to run all day without any rain hindering the sessions, and with reasonably dry weather forecast for race day, the drivers may only have to contend with the wet in race 3.
In fine BTCC form, the formation of the grid is somewhat mixed up from the previous few rounds. With Championship rivals further down the order and despite lighter cars around him, Colin is looking forward to racing the number 4 BMW.
“It feels good to deliver that result today. It was obvious from the get go this morning and the test that it was going to be tough making inroads on the lighter cars, so P2 is fantastic!
The car felt good straight out of the blocks in FP1 and after testing a few theories in FP2, we returned to a well balanced car when it mattered. The car felt great out on track and I enjoyed the intensity of delivering that lap.
I know it won’t be easy in the races tomorrow, it never is, but I’m determined to convert this qualifying into a strong score of points.
We’ll tackle it with full commitment one lap at a time and see where we end up come home time.
I missed the racing over the summer break and it’s great to be back with the BTCC Team BMW family.”
