SILVERSTONE QUALIFYING REPORT
TURKINGTON OUTQUALIFIES RIVALS DESPITE TOUGH DAY AT SILVERSTONE
Colin Turkington will start race 1 ahead of his main rivals in P18 tomorrow despite a less than ideal day at Silverstone. Suffering with a car slightly off balance throughout the day, the BMW driver found himself battling the 1 series in a fight for compliance. A minor imbalance proved costly as the top 29 cars qualified within one second of each other. Laden with success ballast the BMW refused to comply with the engineering remedies as Turkington did the best with what he had.
“I knew that today was going to be a challenge for us but with one thing or another the car just didn’t respond as we would have liked. If we can improve the balance overnight I’m confident we’ll be on the money in the races.
The nature of Silvertone National circuit means that if you’re compromised in even one turn, it’s extremley difficult to make that up elsewhere. With full weight on board the laws of physics call the shots and today was a true example of that.
The car was predictable and strong for the majority of the lap, so in theory we only need to unlock a marginal piece of magic. With the strength of the engineering squad behind me I’m confident we can do this.
The conditions today were similar to what we expect for tomorrow and that’s a bonus. It was a positive to qualify ahead of my two main contenders and considering I’m the heaviest, was certainly surprised by that.
The aim is to keep moving forwards, keep attacking and aim for the front. I’m as hungry for a win as any other driver and will be giving it all I have. Time to get the race face on!”
