P4 FOR TURKINGTON IN DEBUT CHINA RACE
STRONG RESULT FOR TURKINGTON SECURES CRUCIAL CTCC POINTS FOR VW
Colin Turkington made an impressive start to his CTCC winter programme today (Saturday 6th October) after converting a front row start into a P4 finish for the 333 Racing Volkswagen team. Following his stunning pole position qualifying lap, Turkington lost a few positions off the start, but went on to record the fastest lap in the race. With only three thirty-minute sessions to learn the circuit, car and tyres, the Triple BTCC Champion didn’t make the getaway he would have preferred, but survived a fierce battle on track for third to bring his VW Lamando home in fourth position. Turkington’s team mate Dong Dong took victory after a very close race. Both recorded crucial manufacturer points for Volkswagen and the team have now halved their gap to leaders Kia in their hunt for the 2018 title.
“It was fierce out there and they race hard, but I’m happy to finish and score well for the team. It was awesome to see Dong Dong (teammate) clinch the win!
I lost a few positions off the line, but it’s just part of the learning process and learning is what I’m here to do.
That was my first chance to try a start in this car but we can improve for tomorrow and go forwards.
It feels good to have my first race completed and I will be in a much more familiar place for race 2. You have no idea who you’re racing and it’s a total step into the unknown for me, but one I’m thoroughly enjoying.
The experience is fantastic.
I’ll do my homework tonight and look forward to the action tomorrow!”
