DONINGTON PARK PREVIEW
TURKINGTON POISED TO POUNCE AS UPGRADED DONINGTON PARK SET TO DELIVER ANOTHER BTCC THRILLER
The teams and drivers of the British Touring Car Championship are finishing off final preparations ahead of the second instalment of the 2018 season at the newly upgraded – Donington Park. Now part of the Motorsport Vision group, the revamped East Midlands circuit is looking forward to hosting the BTCC action this weekend.
HEART RACING ACTION
The season kicked off in sensational fashion at Brands Hatch a few weeks ago, as nine different drivers took to the podium over Sunday’s three races. It was a trouble free qualifying session that began proceedings on Saurday, however, with the top 30 cars all qualifying within one second of each other, it was far from stress free!
Sunday put on a brilliant display of wheel-to-wheel, anything-can-happen action as the trackside spectators were treated to some thrilling battles. Likewise, the fans at home were unable to take their eyes off the screen as the unpredictable racing re-ignited the passion for the nations favourite tin top series.
After a strong podium finish in race 1 an unfortunate technical issue before race 2 put paid to Colin’s overall weekend targets, but the BMW showed incredible pace in two comeback drives that saw him leave on Sunday night as the 6th placed driver in the overall championship.
Recap on Brands Hatch here
“I really enjoyed being back in the BTCC hot seat at Brands Hatch and getting the full Team BMW extended family back together added further motivation. There really is nothing quite like a BTCC race weekend and it seems the fans were equally as invigorated by having a ‘BTCC Sunday’ back on their screens!
You get to the end of a BTCC race day, and mentally you feel like you have just completed a marathon… or two! Anything can happen over those two days and very little can prepare you for what lies ahead. This is what we love about the BTCC!
I’ve said before that success in this series requires a melting pot of many things and that also includes the holy grail ingredient – luck. Looking back to Brands Hatch, I imagine most drivers felt there was the opportunity for better results, but personally I left satisfied with my performance and excited about the potential we have in the BMW.
We were able to collect my first win of the year at Donington Park last year, and although we were far from the quickest car on the grid, we were challenging for podiums. Our tests pre-season were extremely productive and should give us a good idea of what areas to hone in on during Saturday’s practice.
Arriving with relatively little success ballast, I believe we can be at the sharp end once again.
It’s been an incredibly busy period from pre-season testing through to Brands Hatch and getting another test at Thruxton after the first event was very productive. I feel well and truly immersed into this new season and I’m confident with the progress made over the winter.
Dick Bennetts and the team have once again delivered a strong package for this season and he continues to inspire us to be the best.
This weekend it’s all about scoring points and edging our way up that Championship leader board. I have full faith we will.”

DONINGTON OPTION TYRE
The BTCC grid will use the HARD tyre as the option at Donington Park. Regarded as the more difficult choice, we generally see a reduced performance on this compound. Before qualifying on Saturday the drivers must choose which race to run the option tyre.
COLIN VISITS WHITES OATS
Last week Colin visited ‘White’s Oats’ factory in Tandragee, Co Armagh and took delivery of a luxury breakfast hamper. Part of the Fane Valley group, White’s Oats are a market leading and award winning provider of porridge and oats across the UK, Europe and further afield.
