The highly anticipated Irish Open came to town in Northern Ireland at the weekend as the World Number 1 Rory McIlroy hosted a spectacular tournament of Golf on home soil.
Set against the epic Mourne Mountains on the coast of Newcastle, the Irish Open was attended by thousands from around the world. The cream of the golfing world were out in full force alongside Northern Irish heroes McIlroy, Darren Clarke and Grahame McDowell, as one of the toughest courses on the European Tour proved a difficult challenge for all.
Keen to enjoy the stunning event, Colin joined his Tourism Ireland partners on the final day soaking up the breathtaking backdrop.
“I’ve attended the PGA Tour in Wentworth with my friends at Jump into Ireland the past couple of years, but to fully experience such a fantastic event on Northern Irish turf was something quite special. When you take a proper look at the scenery around the Royal County Down course, it’s impossible to take it all in. You have these huge imposing mountains that sweep down into mass forest areas and then the sea. The sky was clear and the sun was shining when we arrived on Sunday morning, making it all the more beautiful. It was a fascinating day watching the leaders – their consistency and skill was something else. There is nothing more inspiring than observing fellow professional sportsmen at work.”
