TURKINGTON PLEASED WITH PERFORMANCE AFTER QUALIFYING AHEAD OF HIS TITLE RIVAL
Championship leader Colin Turkington will start ahead of his title rival for race 1 after a strong performance in qualifying. Despite qualifying P17, Turkington insists he has a great car underneath him and is confident the race pace will be strong. Making improvements in every session, the BMW driver extracted the maximum performance from his ballast laden car and is keen to make progress through the pack in the opening race tomorrow.
“The weather was in our favour today and it was fantastic to have consistent conditions to improve the 1 series during the day. We nudged it in the right direction every session and the car we had for qualifying was as good as it was ever going to be with all that weight.
Don’t be mislead by the number, the success ballast performed it job to perfection today and I’m delighted to qualify ahead of lighter cars.
P17 was our pole position today!
The main objective was to go one or two better than Tom and we did just that. It’s box ticked in that respect but tomorrow is another day. From here on in, I’ll be forgetting about him and racing as usual.
The car felt on the money out there, and I’m really satisfied in the job we did. We got the setup spot on and I nailed the lap. You have to move your expectations carrying 75kgs and assess the performance in relative terms.
It was great to get in the car today and get busy with what I love. The GP circuit never fails to put a big grin on my face. I plan to get a good nights sleep and will be concentrating on going forwards.”
